Australia vs. England – 23.11.2017 – Betting Tip

The old rivals head into the tie with 32 wins each in the previous 69 meetings in the oldest competition. Two years ago, Australia arrived in England in high spirits looking to retain the Ashes. England offered a strong resistance in the first Test in Cardiff when they stunned the Aussies who immediately bounced back at Lords to make it all square ahead of the third outing. Nonetheless, Australia’s batsmen struggled badly to keep pace with inspired Englishmen who eventually regained the Ashes (3-2 at the end).

Can Australia steal it once again on the home soil this winter? Stay tuned as we are about to analyze both the first fixture and the entire tie in our Sports Betting Strategies.

The hosts will be without the sidelined bowler James Pattinson. His absence might make the difference for England as the Aussies do not have a faster man on James’ position. All eyes will thus be on the likes of David Warner and Aaron Finch.

Warner is no doubts the team’s star man, but he has been struggling a lot at the recently finished Twenty20 International. Finch has thus been the main figure against India at both One Day International and Twenty20 International.

The English batting lineup will be pressured by the names of Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jason Behrendorff. The latter will come into this high on confidence after back-to-back spectacular displays in the mentioned outings with India.

The Ashes holders took advantage of the opportunity to tackle Western Warriors last weekend. The clash served as the final test for James Whitaker’s side prior to the first of five fixtures across Australia. Whitaker could not use the services of Steven Finn and Moeen Ali who sustained injuries during the preparation period and will likely skip the first Test on November 23.

Finn should have replaced the all-rounder Ben Stokes in the touring lineup, but his injury significantly complicates things for the visiting selector here. Apart from the mentioned fitness issues, it’s fair to say the atmosphere in the dressing room is at the highest possible level.

The Englishmen enjoyed a fine run of form this summer beating the likes of South Africa and West Indies in their respective Test series. The back-to-back victories engaged the competition for places in the starting lineup as Whitaker truly has a fairly satisfying depth in the squad ahead of the trip to Australia.

Head to Head and Stats

As we mentioned in the introduction, the old rivals will meet each other in the landmark 70th head to head tie in The Ashes. The rivalry dates back from 1882 when the Australians took the victory at The Oval.

Nevertheless, England entirely dominated the match-up winning as many as eight series on the trot having lost no more than four of 22 tests along the way. Australia finally ended English dominance in 1891/92 when they got better of their opponents 2-1.

England v Australia Cricket Betting Predictions

English players celebrating a victory

Australia had a period of their own dominance stretching from 1920s onwards when they gained the nickname “The Invincibles”. Up to date, the rivals are all leveled at 32 wins each, while the two sides shared the spoils on five occasions in 69 previous meetings.

Interestingly, England hold the record for the highest margin win in an Ashes Series. It dates back in 1978/79 when the Englishmen picked up a 5-1 win.

The tie played two years ago on England’s soil saw the hosts snatching a 3-2 win which has already been discussed above.

Our Tips and Predictions

After going through some of the most prominent features ahead of the tie, we’ll share our thoughts on whom we see as the favorites to grab the Ashes in 2017. A lot will depend on the physical condition of English players who might be able to cause damage here even in full strengths.

There is still plenty of time for all-rounders Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes to recover for the first of five tests. We’ll be brave enough and say we’d back England to stun Aussies and retain the Ashes with the like of Stokes on tour. Without him, we have to admit the hosts are the favorites both on the night and over five tests.

Betting sites in Nigeria will confirm the favorite tag for Australia who are 1.80 to clinch the spoils, but we’ll go with the upset and back England win the series as one of the main betting tips. You can get as high as 3.50 odds for the away win.

In all, we’re certainly in for a thrilling period packed with the top action as one of the oldest rivalries in the world is about to be relived this winter in Australia. Let’s all enjoy it together and don’t forget the first test kicks-off November 23.
